Guidelines for Showing Homes Safely During COVID-19

On May 4, Marin County relaxed some real estate showing rules and began allowing occupied homes to be visited by buyers and their agents. This flipped the switch on real estate market activity and it's been busy ever since.

Still, we are in the midst of a pandemic and everyone must take precautions. Our brokerage, Compass, and the California Association of Realtors have been working overtime to devise safety rules for property showings.

Today, a home can be shown under the following guidelines. The goal is to prevent the spread of the disease.

  1. Only two people (buyers) from the same household and one buyer's agent can be present in the home at one time

  2. You represent that you don't have a fever or other COVID-19 symptoms and haven't been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days

  3. All people entering the property must sign a disclosure form prior to entry

  4. Owners/occupants must leave the home during a showing

  5. Wash hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer upon entering the property

  6. Wear a face covering

  7. Keep at least 6 feet apart

  8. Avoid touching surfaces or items in the property

  9. No handouts or brochures can be present in the house

  10. No open houses. Showings must be by appointment
